Pioneer Africa Rights Group, HURMA Pledges Support For EFCC – Rights Monitors


A lead Human Right body in Africa, Human Rights Monitoring Agenda (HURMA Global Resource Initiative) has pledged to support the Anti-corruption war by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC in Nigeria with all its office network and membership strength across the nation.

This was contained in a letter of commendation sent to the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) which was submitted at the Lagos office on EFCC at Awolowo Road, Ikoyi on Tuesday February 14, 2023. The letter signed by both the Executive Director of HURMA, Comrade Buna Olaitan Isiak and Lekan Alabi Esq, head of HURMA legal department commend the consistency of the EFCC Chairman, Bawa in the fight against corruption in the country despite various challenges and discouragement from several angles.
The Human Rights organization promise to assist with its membership strength at every local government unit of the organization and as well as state branches



The letter reads in parts:
“The Human Rights Monitoring Agenda (HURMA Global Resource Initiative) is a registered body with a mandate to protect the violation of the fundamental rights of people as entrenched in the relevant provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) and African Charter of Human and Peoples’ Right. We have strong bias for the defense of the oppressed and victims of human right abuses and ultimately determined towards complete emancipation of every oppressed members of our societies from all forms of exploitation and oppression.
“HURMA wish to hereby commend the leadership of the EFCC for the consistency in ensuring sanity in our system through continuous fight against corruption inspite several challenges. Our office is hereby proposing a collaboration with the EFCC and shall be willing to give whatever support within our reach through our various unit and branches to ensure a better and more effective service delivery for the sake of the general masses”
In a latter press statement made available to Rights Monitors news, the head of legal department, Lekan Alabi Esq. emphasize the reason to support the Anti-corruption body by HURMA as a mass based organization
“As an organisation , we shall continue to support genuine anti corruption war in the country on the following grounds:
- We believe in equitae distribution of wealth of the nation. Corrupt practises endanger the health of the nation and incapacitate the workability of the state. In order to ensure the state that works for all, we must support crusade against corruption.
- Economic injustice breeds instability, breakdown of law and order and possibly revolt. Corrupt practice is a twin pillar of economic injustice. Corrupt enrichment of a few leads to poverty of many. And the majority will not have a choice than to revolt against an unjust system. Guiding against a rebellion against the state, our organisation have to join hands with other public spirited organisations in fighting against corruption in all its ramifications”.
