Concerned Human Rights groups led by the Human Rights Monitoring Agenda (HURMA Global Resource Initiative) has called on both the Senate and National Assembly to investigate alleged act of economic sabotage by Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun and his predecessor, Ibikunle Amosun on the Olokola Dangote Refinary Project. The Human Rights body extended the petition to the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission ICPC to disclose the exact role as directly played by the personalities in the frustrated project which cost the investor, Alh. Aliko Dangote hundred of millions before moving to Lagos State for resettlement. The petition signed by the Executive Director of the mass based Human Rights and Anti-Corruption organization with title: “Urgent Request to Investigate Alleged Economic Sabotage in the Olokola Dangote Refinery Project by Governor Dapo Abiodun and His Predecessor Ibikunle Amosun”, reads in parts:”We wish to call the attention of the honourable house to the act of economic sabotage allegedly carried out by certain prominent personalities in Ogun State, as recently revealed by the Chairman of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, in his press briefing on the Olokola Dangote Refinery Project. This project was reportedly frustrated due to undisclosed circumstances. There is a pressing need for the National Assembly to invite the affected individuals, including former Governor Ibikunle Amosun and current Governor Dapo Abiodun, for investigation and potential sanctions.”This action is crucial at a time when Nigerians are experiencing significant economic hardship. It is essential to demonstrate to the public that their representatives are committed to addressing their grievances.”According to Alhaji Dangote’s briefing, the contract for the refinery was signed during the tenure of former Governor Ibikunle Amosun, who appointed the current Governor Dapo Abiodun as the head of the Olokola Free Trade Zone. The project was allegedly frustrated due to corrupt intentions, leading to the loss of several million dollars.”It is imperative to sanction the individuals involved to prevent further economic sabotage. We must support Dangote’s patriotic efforts to provide employment opportunities and infrastructure development for Nigerian youth. Sending a clear message to the international business community that Ogun State and Nigeria are safe for serious investment is crucial “
