From Detention Cell to Silk: President Tinubu, Minister Keyamo Celebrate HURMA’s Lawyer, Kunle Adegoke SAN (K-Rad) at 57

The Human Rights Monitoring Agenda (HURMA) has joined millions of Nigerians to celebrate its Lead Counsel, pro-masses Senior Advocate, Kunle Rasheed Adegoke, SAN, popularly known as K-Rad (Kunle Radical), on his 57th birthday.

The celebration was given national colour with official congratulatory letters from the Presidency and the Federal Ministry of Aviation.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in a letter from the State House, Abuja described K-Rad as a “Distinguished Leader and Gentleman” and praised his “remarkable personality, wisdom, courage, and invaluable contributions to society.”

The President prayed for good health, greater wisdom, abundant grace and many more years of impactful service to humanity.

In a deeply personal letter dated 2nd September, 2026, the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, CON, described K-Rad as his “dear brother and comrade.”

Keyamo recalled their journey:

“You and I share a history that goes back decades — a history that began when we were young, idealistic lawyers… We both paid the price for our convictions, finding ourselves locked up in the same detention cell for our roles in the struggle for a better Nigeria. That experience, the shared pain, the shared sacrifice — created a brotherhood that no amount of time or success could ever diminish.”

“From the cell to the silk, that journey is a testament not just to our individual determination, but to God’s faithfulness.”

Keyamo also celebrated K-Rad’s record as a top litigator who has handled over one hundred election petitions including the biggest presidential ones in recent memory, and his work in infrastructure finance and international arbitration.

The Executive Director of Human Rights Monitoring Agenda HURMA also described the legal luminary, K-Rad as a leader in struggle who is fully dedicated to total emancipation of the oppressed masses from all forms of exploitation and oppression.
“For us in HURMA, K-Rad is not just a lawyer. He is our lawyer who defends the poor free of charge, files public interest cases against oppression, and stands with us at Alausa, at the police station, and in court”.
