Relatives of Olalekan Isiaka, who was recently arrested and charged to court of alleged robbery and attempted murder by the Lagos state police command, have cried out to the Human Rights Monitoring Agenda (HURMA) for urgent intervention and possible assistant to rescue their son who they claim was only been defamed by the police. The relatives insisted that the police deliberately lied against him to cover their dirty acts.
The above claim was positioned in a letter to the human rights office few days after the arrest of the accused.
The relatives were also featured live on the Rights Monitoring radio program “Labe-Ofin” (Rule of Law) at Bond FM 92.9, Radio Nigeria on Tuesday 5th of March, 2019. According to Mrs. Mariam Olalekan, Wife to the victim and a nursing mother:

“Lekan is a bus driver with his own personal Bus (the bus now in police custody and marked exhibit, as stolen vehicle).
He was accompanied by a friend, also a bus driver to HONEY DROP DIAGNOSTIC CENTRE AT IPAJA AYOBO on Thursday 28th of February, to attend his health condition and after conducting a test on him, he was diagnosed of high fever (test result given to us on radio).
He was charged to pay #7,500 (Seven thousand five hundred naira) before treatment would commenced.
He set out on the following day, 1st of March, 2019 to deliver his bus to a friend who would use it to work for him so as to get money for the treatment. But while on his way at Mosan OkunOla area of Ayoba, he came across some police officers who requested for some documents but he could not provide everything. They afterwards requested for the usual tip to bail himself out and proceed on his trip, but Lekan insisted that he had no money to give.
This led to attempt to remove his bus plate number by one of the officers, but Lekan resisted.
An officer threatened him with gun but Lekan dragged the gun with him before the intervention of another officer suspected to be a senior officer.
While the argument was on, one of the officers pushed Lekan so hard that the fell and collapsed on the ground, perhaps due to his poor health condition.
Few minutes later, he began to convulse and this attracted sympathizers who had been watching the entire scene. They rushed the officers and insisted that they should carry the man they just killed. It was during this heat that one of the officers was stabbed by unknown person among the sympathizers, and not Lekan Isiaka as claimed by the police. Lekan Isiaka was as that time unconscious and only woke up at the hospital with handcuffs on his hands chained to bed at Agape Hospital, Olude Bus Stop at Ipaja Ayobo”.

Some of the above information, the wife claimed was gathered from the scene of event at Ayobo.

The Command will like to state unequivocally that no police officer killed any bus driver in Lagos State on the date in question being 01/03/2019.

The incident the writer was trying to portray albeit inaccurately took place at Mosan Okunola Community in Ayobo area of the state where a team of anti crime policemen on routine patrol, led by Inspector Oloruntoba Gbenga, was attacked by a gang of youths suspected to be members of an unlawful society, led by one Lekan Isiaka.

The said Lekan Isiaka while trying to snatch a rifle assigned to Inspector Frank Ikpokpo, stabbed him on the head.

The rest of the team resisted the criminal gang and made a distress call to their Area Command Headquarters in Ayobo following which a team of policemen were dispatched to the scene on rescue mission.

The rescue team succeeded in arresting the notorious Lekan Isiaka who pretended to be dead in the video being circulated alongside his partners in crime, namely: Precious Bassey, Anayo Ugwu, Adewale Fatai, Samuel Akande, Matthew Ogbede, Adewunmi Idowu, Chukwuka Oshele and Kunle Adeola.

The injured policemen have been treated and discharged while Inspector Frank Ikpokpo is in the Intensive Care Unit of a private hospital.

The Command Commissioner of Police, CP Zubairu Muazu mni, has directed that the suspects be charged to court on Monday March 4, 2019 for attempted murder,”

The relatives of Lekan Isiaka claimed that non of those claimed by police to have been arrested as gang member of Lekan is known to him.
