His Excellency,

Honorable Yakubu Dogara,

House or Representatives,

Federal Republic of Nigeria,

Aso Rock Villa

Dear Sir,

We wish to bring to your notice an issue currently ongoing in the upper legislative chamber to which we feel lending your support and political weight will augur well for our democracy and serve as another step to setting aright the political affairs of our nation

It has to do with the unconscionable plot by some members of your party in the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the upper Chamber to scuttle the nomination of Dr. Muiz Banire to the position of the head of the Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON) as forwarded by the President, Muhammadu Buhari.

We reiterate here that this move by the concerned persons is nothing but a desperate attempt to subject and subjugate the legitimate aspirations of party stalwarts and members of the APC to the whims and caprices of a self-styled godfather, as there was no valid or legitimate ground for the opposition to the nomination other than political vendetta.

For the record Sir, we are a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) dedicated to the promotion and defense of human rights across all strata of society, and our track records and engagements speak for us. Being non-partisan, HURMA expects nothing from any player in the Nigerian polity in terms of personal or group gains except the delivery of the dividends of democracy which can only come with the proper and prudent utilization of the nation’s resources and which can only be guaranteed by the selection of the best hands for certain national assignments of which the role of your

As the Speaker of the Chamber that houses the largest representation of Nigerians, lending your support to upholding justice, fairness and giving vent to the legitimate aspiration of Nigerians will go a long way in strengthening our democracy and ensuring that no individual becomes a figure towering above our laws and statutes enacted in part by your Chamber. This is why we call on you to deploy everything in your capacity as the Speaker to foil this mushrooming by these individuals who, acting under certain influence and instructions and not any rational conviction, are bent on denying the appointment of Dr. Muiz Banire pending before the Senate.

As you are aware, Dr. Banire is an achiever and a dogged public officer who prioritizes public interest over and above personal cravings. As a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Dr. Banire is another capacity waiting to strengthen the APC in delivering on its electoral promises. Therefore, the sacrifice of meritocracy at the altar of narrow and parochial considerations which has bedeviled our politics for long must come to an end; and this for your person and office is a litmus test and a reference for the future.

We are also concerned that the true idea of party supremacy which the new National Chairman of the party is bringing to the table could be dead on arrival if for upward mobility by any of the party’s stalwart and members the ego of just an individual must be appeased at all time. While we recognize the roles that certain individuals must have played in putting together the winning team that APC has become, we warn that caution must be exercised when dealing with the internal affairs of the party so that internal democracy upon which rests the strength of any party would be preserved as Dr. Banire has been on sufferance to echo.

We therefore implore you Sir, to be vigilant to any attempt hidden or manifest, direct or sponsored aimed at scuttling Dr. Muiz Banire’s appointment as deemed fit and forwarded for confirmation by the President, Muhammadu Buhari.

We count on your leadership to once again rise up to resist the surreptitious imposition of the will of an individual through lackeys in our legislative houses masquerading as democrats. Nigeria must not again be denied the services of some of its best brains with capacity to deliver owing to disagreement by an individual. A solidarity with Dr. Muiz Banire is a solidarity with Nigeria and Nigerians, and history will accord you a place of pride when this matter is revisited in the future.

While counting on you for support in this regard, we thank you for your audience.

Yours faithfully,

Comrade Buna Olaitan Isiak

Executive Director
