SOMOLU GENERAL HOSPITAL: RESIDENTS UNITE ON APPEAL TO L.G BOSS (DULLAR) FOR TEMPORARY SPACE FOR LIFE RESCUSE.

Residents and all major stake-holders of somolu community have unitedly appealed to the chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon.salaudeen (A.K.A Dullar) to please spare some rooms in the local government secretariat, to serve as temporary admission rooms to admit patients from the general hospital, pending the completion of lagos state government Promised alternative.

The appeal was moved by the Somolu co-ordinator of a group named Youth Earnestly Ask For Ambode (YEAA), Mr.Monsur Akinremi, at an immergency stake-holders meeting in the Somolu Local Government Secretariat hall on the 28th of march 2018. This meeting was initiated by the general hospital management to address the emergency state of the hospital.

 

Prior to this meeting, a human rights group, Human Rights Monitoring Agenda, (HURMA) had proposed a protest to reveal the horrible experience of residents due to lack of admission rooms in the hospital .The main building of the hospital has been abandoned and marked for demolition and reconstruction due to its distress condition, since late 2017.

It was gathered that some patients, including pregnant women, recently died due to the habit of turning patients back for “No Space For Admissions” slogan by the hospital management.

 

Attendants to the stake-holders meeting include the representative of somolu L.G chairman, Hon.Taiwo Adesanya ; Dr.A.Oduwole,representing Hon.commissioner for health; Dr (Mrs) Tokunbo Oluwole, Commissioner II (Health Service commission); Dr. Bolaji Adebiyi, Director of medical services (HSC) ; Dr. (Mrs) G.I Sanwo-Olu, MD/ CEO Somolu General Hospital; Dr .F.A Ishola, past M.D somolu general with other senior management staff, co-ordinated by the head of admin, Mr. Soyebo. Also in attendance are representative of Oba in Council for Somolu community; religions leaders; CDC chairman and many political and community leaders in the community, including iyaloja General

 

The proposal, as moved by Monsur Akinremi was generally supported while the representative of the L.G Boss promised to convey the message to the Chairman.

 

“Our chairman was voted by us to manage our secretariat. Now that our hospital next door is having admission challenges, we are sure that our chairman would not disappoint us by giving us some rooms in the L.G secretariat at least to rescue the lives of those that voted him into power, pending the completion of state government temporary structure”.

 

In their speeches, representatives from Lagos state health service commission pleaded that residents should be patient for the government to complete the temporary structure being arranged by the government pending the completion of a better and more befitting general hospital structure for the community.

The Executive Director of HURMA, Comrade Buna Olaitan Isiak, while responding to the message sent by the Lagos Health Commissioner said: “Governor Ambode can not understand the exact fueling of the people of the community. So also the Commissioner and the L.G Boss, because thier wives and children would not patronize such hospital. They are rich and can afford to travel for better treatment”.

 

The meeting ended with all attendants expectant of the immediate commencement of work, as promised by the state government and approval of temporary space within the local government Secretariat.
