Use Your Second Political Life Opportunity To Serve The Masses- Human Rights Monitors, HURMA Writes Lagos Speaker, Obasa – Rights Monitors

The leadership of Human Rights Monitoring Agenda HURMA Global Resource Initiative, a mass based Human Rights/ Anti-Corruption body has advised the reinstated Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa to redirect his approach and leadership style towards ensuring best participatory representation for the poor masses across the entire state.

The message was delivered in a letter from HURMA office titled
“A Congratulatory Note on Recent Court Ruling Against Your Impeachment And Request to Reforge Lagos Assembly for True People Representation”.
The letter signed by the Executive Director of the Human Rights body, Comrade Buna Olaitan Isiak reads in parts:

“Justice Yetunde Pinheiro of Ikeja High Court in her rulling on the legality of your initial impeachment held that your right to fair hearing was breached in all allegations levelled against you.
“The court, in your favor finally declared that the purported sitting on January 13 wasn’t properly constituted and that the removal of the principal officers wasn’t done in line with Section 92(2) of the Nigerian Constitution since you were not given the opportunity to defend yourself, as you were not present at that sitting.
This shows the action of the lawmakers on January 13 was more of a coup.
“The reality is that you are legally confirmed back to the position of Speakership of Lagos House of Assembly.
This is no doubt a decision by the Almighty Creator and shall prevail, irrespective of who is in support or not.
It is however important to always learn from past events and plan better ahead.
“Considering the process that led to your so called impeachment and the after event before your reinstatement, it is clear that not many people were comfortable with your leadership style of governance, and this is not limited to the elected representatives at the LSHA.
“It was indeed disheartening as we observed the street mixed reaction on the announcement of your removal as Speaker by a majority of the lawmakers on January 13. We gathered comments and watch people’s reactions.
“We therefore urge you to direct this your new opportunity of your second political life focused on what will benefit the poor and suffering Lagosians rather than revenge. See the past events as normal political game and move on progressively in favor of the poor masses.
It is also very important to make it known that from the reports received so far from all units of HURMA across the state, it is clear that none of the coup plotters acted on the interest of the people of the constituency they are supposed to be representing, but rather of certain unknown interest within the party’s political caucus”.
The Human Rights group, HURMA pledges complete support for whatever action from the Speaker’s office that would encourage genuine democratic inclusivity on behalf of the poor masses.
