The popular politician cum legal luminary, Dr. Muiz Banire has advised the leadership of the Human Rights Monitoring Agenda (HURMA) to go beyond its regular legal assistance for indigent victims of rights abuse, to mass sensitisation of the grassroots to keep them informed over what constitute their rights as well as obligations to their different communities.

This, he said, will in the long run get the people informed and ultimately liberate them from the bondage of ignorance.

This advice was given to the human rights group during a short visit made to the legal luminary chamber on Friday 22nd of June 2018.
Some designated HURMA executive members led by the Executive Director, Comrade Buna Olaitan Isiak, visited the Chamber of the Senior Advocate and National Legal Adviser of the ruling party in Nigeria, APC, for the purpose of discussing certain critical issues on the state of the nation and as well express a profound gratitude to him, being member of HURMA legal aid team, for the regular legal education and support rendered to the oppressed members of the society through the HURMA platform among many others in the society.
Also included in the visiting team are Barrister Olamilekan Matti; Mrs. Remi Erinle, coordinator of Alapere unit; Pastor comrade Ojetoro Festus, Mile 12 unit; Comrade Ojenike Matthew of Ilogbo Otta, Ogun state; Comrade Monsur Akinremi of Somolu unit among others.

“The Human Rights Monitoring Agenda (HURMA) is doing a great a great job by relating with the grassroot to attend to problems of the oppressed members of the society, but like I have been advising many other active organizations like yours, you need to educate people to liberate them from the present status quo of dogma. They must be liberated from the bondage of ignorance. They must understand their rights to appreciate their real worth and value. It is unfortunate that many people, from the market to other strata of our society, are often tied to a myopic and selfish dictate of one religious or political leader to another.
You must engage in a radical approach towards educating the grassroot otherwise some may even ignorantly be later fighting you for defending them from being slaves in their father’s land” he concluded.

A plaque was finally present by the group that partly read “Dr. Muiz Banire, SYMBOL OF JUSTICE AND FREEDOM”
